Habakkuk’s Conversation with God

Late 7^th century B.C.  A conversation between the prophet Habakkuk and God:

Habakkuk:  God, these people, Israel, are incredibly wicked.  Sin, violence everywhere.  The law is powerless and justice never goes forth.  The wicked surround the righteous, and perverse judgment proceeds.  You are a holy, righteous God.  How long are you going to put up with this?

God:  I’m about to take care of it, Habakkuk.  The Babylonians are heading Israel’s way and there will be punishment and retribution.

Habakkuk (scratching his head):  Uh, ok, God, but, um,  the Babylonians?  They are worse than we are.  I mean, we are awful, but we aren’t THAT bad.  How can you use a nation worse than us to punish us?

God:  Habakkuk, please let me take care of it.  “The just shall live by faith.”  Try to trust Me for a change.

Conclusion:

A human’s understanding of existence:  a grain of sand

How Can a Good, Loving God Send Anybody to Hell?

        “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge,” God said through the prophet Hosea (4:6).  Ignorance will, indeed, destroy us.  Our ignorance of history and Leftist ideology is wreaking havoc on America right now, tearing the country to shreds.  But there is no ignorance worse than ignorance of God’s Word, of New Testament Christianity.

        The question in the title of this essay is one heard occasionally by those who don’t want to submit to Christ.  I heard a form of it this morning from my sister.  “I take a little bit from every religion or philosophy—Jesus, Buddha, all religions teach basically the same thing.  If I’m a good person, I can’t believe a loving God would send me to hell.”  Ignorance, but common ignorance.

        The truth is, God doesn’t 'send' anybody to hell. He gives us freedom of choice to set our own destination.  He does have conditions for going to heaven, and one of those is that we must believe that Jesus of Nazareth is His Son and died on Calvary’s cross for our sins.  It doesn’t matter how “good” we are, we are all sinners to one degree or another and thus have offended a perfect, righteous, holy God.  Sin cannot abide in His presence.  He sent His Son Jesus to remedy that.  It is the supreme act of love.

        If we reject Jesus, we are rejecting that love.  We make the choice.  “God, I don’t want to go to heaven on your terms, I want to go on my own terms.  You better let me into heaven on my terms or I’m going to think you are a bad God.”  I seriously doubt that kind of reasoning is impressive to Him.

        The fact of the matter is people aren’t lost and hell-bound because God doesn’t love them; they are lost and hell-bound because they don’t love God.  If they don’t love Him enough to want to have fellowship with Him here on earth, I doubt they will want to spend an eternity with Him in heaven.  So, by making the choice to go to hell, they are, in effect, choosing exactly what they chose on earth—to not be part of God’s kingdom.  They spit in God’s face all their lives and yet demand He give them heaven in the end.  And they call that “love.”  There is a thing called “justice,” too, and that will play a role in the final day as well.

       You don't just invite yourself into God's home (or anybody else's, for that matter).  I set the conditions for who enters my abode, and everybody else does the same.  But, for some reason, it's not supposed to work that way with God.  He is obliged to let everybody into His home, on their own terms, regardless of what they do, and He can have no say in the matter.  If that weren't so serious, it would be uproarously preposterous.  But that appears to be what most people believe.  

      Apparently, God loving us means He has to give us everything we want regardless of how we treat Him.  Us loving God means He has to give us everything we want regardless of how we treat Him.  It's all, and totally, about what WE want.

        People don’t accept Jesus for one reason—they don’t want to do what He says.  So be it.  It’s their choice.  They decide where they want to spend eternity, not God.  They will receive  what they have lived all their lives for--an eternal destiny away from Him.

          The real question is not 'how can a loving God send anybody to hell,' but 'how can a just, holy God allow any of us miserable, rebellious sinners into heaven with Him.'  But, as always, humans are selfish, self-serving, full of hubris, and we make our own rules.  And then demand God follow them.  No wonder Jesus said, 'Few there be that find it.'

        

        

 

What In the World Are You People Doing Over There?

            As I have mentioned before in several on this blog, I am a native Texan, but currently live in Thailand, having (barely) escaped the Chinese gulag this past summer.  I haven’t been in the United States since 2019, almost four years ago.  I left the country, and all hell has broken loose.

            What are you people doing over there?

            Here’s a disaster list since I left America (no particular order and certainly not exhaustive):

            --You elected (somehow) a China-loving, ossified, pathological liar as President who shakes hands with ghosts, talks to dead people, and makes Kamala Harris look like George Washington.

            --Speaking of your Vice-President, she sounds like a chicken and seems to have the brains to match (my apologies to chickens).

            --You’ve got derailed trains full of nobody-knows-what spreading that nobody-knows-what nobody-knows-where for nobody-knows-how-long, killing nobody-knows-how-many different life forms.

            --Pennsylvania elected to the United States Senate, once the most august political body in the world, a…what?...with the intellectual ability of a three-year old (I’m being generous).

            --The Chinese (or is it the Martians?) are sending spy balloons over the country, probably telling their boy Joe what all the unvaxxed are doing, as well as discovering where America’s nuclear silos are (as if they didn’t already know thanks to Swalwell and Bang Fang, and Feinstein and her CCP chauffer).

            --Unbelievably, you are mutilating your children in the name of a sexual ideology that nobody in human history had ever heard of until 5 years ago and the rest of the world (except equally deranged Europeans) is laughing at.

            --And people waving their genitals in front of kindergartners??  That’s a joke, right?  Please tell me it’s a sick, revolting joke… 

--You don’t even know what a woman is any more.  And you have a Supreme Court justice who thus apparently doesn’t know what gender she—it—xer—belongs to.  It seems that half the country is clueless about which restroom to use now, or what they are married to.

            --Freedom?  Your socialist government is going to change the climate, order you to drive a certain kind of car, and tell you to eat bugs.  This will happen almost before the current batch of third graders has graduated from high school (if they ever do).  And those kids, if they are still alive, will be jabbed full of so many Pfizer holes they will be leaking worse than Fetterman’s brain.

            --How many national anthems do you have now?  And how many are you planning to have?

            --You no longer have a southern border.  At least I knew where America was the last time I was there.

            --Every month, because respect for human life has ceased to exist in America, there is a mass murder somewhere that the mainstream media totally ignores when they learn it was committed by someone who doesn’t fit their stereotype of a white male, Trump-loving, Jesus-quoting, bazooka-carrying, hillbilly conservative from the slave-loving Confederacy.  And yet, your government, which won’t defend you, wants to take away your right to defend yourself.

            --Ukraine?  Does ANYBODY know what in Ukraine is worth countless billions of American taxpayer dollars?  Freedom?  Under Zelensky?

            --You’ve got people...creatures… things…its…what are they?...who are actually wearing pins on their clothes that say “Abortion.”  This is nothing but barbarism.  Societal sludge. Cave men didn’t even do this.  I thought abortion was supposed to be “safe, legal, and rare.”  From what part of hell does their immorality, indecency, and inhumanity arise?  Is America now full of missing links walking around on two feet, murdering babies, dismembering children, exposing themselves to kids, and making policy for the rest of you? 

            --My sister from Florida is visiting me in Thailand this month.  We saw some Snickers bars in a store, and she asked me how much they cost in American dollar equivalency.  I told her about a dollar, which I though was expensive.  She grabbed two of them.  When I asked her about it, she said she couldn’t buy them in America for less than two bucks, maybe $1.50 if she were lucky.  Two bucks for a Snickers bar?  She told me every time she goes grocery shopping her bill goes up exponentially.  And she ain’t no MAGA Republican, believe me, not even close.

            What are you people doing to America?

            A slight amendment.  I don’t mean “you”, my blog  readers.  You are the salt of the earth, and I know there still exist millions upon millions of decent, hard-working, God-fearing, family-oriented people living in the United States.  You do good deeds every day, quietly and under the radar, supporting charities, going to church, raising your children well, and standing up for the greatest country in history.  I know you are out there, and I salute you.

            But you are outnumbered.  Or out-powered.  Or out-shouted.  Or out-something’d.  Because all I hear about you is how “racist” and “white supremacist” you are.  The only people glorified are left-wing, godless perverts, and communist American-haters who think they can control the weather and everything and everybody else, too.  How that happened in the United States of America is a long, sad, sordid tale, and one that even an historian would have trouble accurately relating. 

            Moses had the simplest explanation:  Israel came to a land “flowing with milk and honey,” and “they have eaten and filled themselves and grown fat,” and then “they…turn[ed] to other gods and serve[d] them” (Deuteronomy 31:20).  That is a common occurrence in human history, not one that describes only the Israelites and America.  The frustrating tragedy is, multitudes are utterly blind to it, and nobody knows how to stop it.

            Pardon me if I stay in Thailand a little longer.  Why should I go home?  I can’t afford $2 Snickers.  The whole thing brings tears to my eyes.
